RTC FREE SAINT PATRICK'S DAY SAFE RIDE

Safety is the RTC’s top priority and, for the 14th year, all RTC transit services will be FREE on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17th, from 4 pm to 2 am!  The RTC encourages everyone to make responsible decisions and for both drivers and pedestrians to never be impaired.

Download the NextBus app for free in the Apple Store or Google Play store to know how long before your bus arrives.  It’s a good idea to be at the stop at least five minutes ahead of time.  Go to http://www.rtcwashoe.com for route and schedule information, and to access to Google Transit feature on the homepage.  Google Transit allows a user to input your starting point and destination, and provides you with information on the best routes to take.  Not all locations are served by transit, so it’s recommended everyone plan their trips in advance.

PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMENT ON POSSIBLE TRANSIT SERVICE CHANGES

Members of the public are invited to comment on possible transit route changes during two open house events at RTC 4TH STREET STATION on Thursday, March 9.  The two open houses will take place from 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm in the north building.

The RTC is constantly evaluating ridership data to provide the best possible transit service to the community, and allow the RTC to maximize resources.  Among the possible changes are: restoring some route 5 service in Sun Valley that was eliminated during the recession, improving service to the VA Hospital and timing adjustments for several routes.

For more information on proposed changes, click here.

RTC MOBILE FARE APP NOW AVAILABLE IN SPANISH

Token Transit, the RTC's new mobile fare app is now available in Spanish.  The app allows a rider to purchase passes on their smartphones and show the screen to the driver when board, simplifying riding and making the process even easier and more convenient.  Phones set to use Spanish will automatically display the app in Spanish.  Users simply download the free Token Transit app on their Apple or Android phone, and link it to a credit or debit card.  Since launching in December of 2016, there have been 1,688 downloads of the app.

SENIOR DAY RAISES AWARENESS AT THE NEVADA STATE LEGISLATURE
Senior citizens are making their voices heard as the 2017 legislative session continues, including discussing their important issues directly with lawmakers during Senior Day at the Nevada State Legislature on February 23rd.  Senator Julia Ratti (Sparks, District 13) and Assembly Member Lisa Krasner (Reno, District 26) are among legislators who took time to talk about priorities for older Americans.

Transportation is a key issue for many Northern Nevada seniors, some of whom are no longer able to drive.  The RTC provided free transportation via bus for the day-long event.  Seniors make up 35 percent of Washoe County's population, according to organizers.  The event was put together by the Reno Senior Citizen Committee, Senior Services Advisory Board and Senior Advisory Coalition of Washoe County.
