President's Piece

October 2016

Hi all,
After a late arrival of the snow, I have been able to fit in a few good days snow skiing this season which unfortunately has meant my flying has not had the attention it normally gets. As I write this bulletin I am thinking I need to brush up on a few areas in preparation for my BFR. This year it also coincides with my medical and as us Men don’t like visiting the Dr, the aviation medical every 5 years sort of forces us to have to do it which is a good thing. We are very fortunate to have Crispin Langston do our medicals and he is very accommodating. So the other Sunday it was a trip up the road to visit the doctor and check out his amazing corner of paradise. The first thing you notice when arriving at the Langston residence is the beautifully engineered gates which is a tribute to Crispin's engineering skills.
I was reading through the Omarama Gazette the other day and came across this article. Imagine rocking up to the dog trials in a DC3 today.
In 1987, Ginger Anderson, of Ben Omar, and Andy Ivey, of Glentanner Station, arranged for a DC3 to be especially fitted out to carry 40 dogs and 20 triallists from Christchurch to Kaikohe for the North Island and New Zealand trials in nearby Ohaeawai

These were the days when every cocky had an aero plane up there and there are many stories and acts that have been told of what used to go on. How times have changed.

At the moment we are trying to finalise a date for the Dawn Raid. Keep an eye out for the notice and come along and join us for an exciting morning of activity at the aero club.

Well thats it from me, I'm off to Australia for some R & R for a few days.

Happy Days.     Paul M

Instructor's Report

Hi Everyone
We've had a great month of flying this September with Charle Elliot from flight test NZ coming down for Danny's PPL flight test and some great flying weather (until this week ha).
Now moving into October we have the ATC camp coming up, with about 12th hours of flying for EOI in two days. Two aircraft and instructors will also be coming down from South Canterbury Aero Club to help give everyone a great weekend.
Laber weekend is almost here as well, giving someone the perfect opportunity for an extended cross-country. If you would like to book EOI for the long weekend, give me a call, and you can start the planning of a great weekend flight.
