Issue 10 •  December 2016

Hi <<First Name>>,
2016 has been somewhat of a year to remember. Without diminishing the important issues that have been raised in our country – whether they be the depth of corruption, the growing call for President Zuma to step down by commerce and within the ruling party itself, or the continuing student unrest – it is time once again, to think about the upcoming ‘season of giving.’
Giving isn’t just about money or ‘things’. Sometimes all it takes is a smile, a willing ear to listen, or a strong shoulder to lean on, or even some of your time; to make someone smile, catch their breath, feel they have a friend and just feel better.
Getting into the spirit of things, we’ve also given you a bumper issue this month. KRS has been busy these past couple of months, so please enjoy catching up on our news, and if you are travelling this season, please extend your generosity to other road users and come back safely.
For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.”
T.S. Elliot.

The South African gym and fitness industry got a powerful boost this month with the announcement that leading software development company Khanyisa Real Systems (KRS), and fast-growing web development company Itensity Online, have joined forces on the Club Management software front. The new venture is named KRS Club (Pty) Ltd, and will be enhancing and growing the web-based Itensity Club management system from Itensity Online.

Lewis is South Africa's single largest furniture brand, and sells a range of household furniture, electrical appliances and home electronics. With its national footprint, but independent stand-alone store technology framework and escalating clientele, Lewis required a simple task oriented system that could aggregate all the information and centralize it. More importantly, it needed a system that could quickly and effectively ‘talk’ to its customers – most of who are still feature phone based.

Task Express, KRS’ daily reminder and issue tracking software system, assists Lewis in speedily processing various client workflows and then notifying clients via SMS of progress. Task Express secures all information in the cloud - call Barbara MacKay at 021 681 2900 to see how Task Express can help your business too.

Lorraine Steyn was recently the main contributor to an article in the November issue of Leadership Magazine on the trends we can expect in 2017 (read it here).

‘Change is the only constant in life’, said the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, and 2017 will be no exception.

“IT Security leads the list for me” says Lorraine Steyn, Simplifier-in-Chief at KRS software developers. “We have completely new threats, as well as all the old challenges. There’s Hactivism, Ransomeware, security breaches, the “common” virus etc. As more of our systems become accessible externally - web sites that allow users to view or modify their own data, mobile devices with access into corporate data, and remote workers with laptops and a range of devices - the opportunity for data breaches multiplies tenfold.”

On 12 November, members of the KRS team headed out to Vissershok Primary (Container) School to donate much needed school socks to over 200 hundred learners. KRS partnered with local fashion company ‘Sexy Socks’ to warm the toes of tomorrow. Each year, the company looks for ways to thank clients and partners, and pay it forward in the process.

Last year KRS put planet and people on the agenda with its beaded plant holders and pot-plants. In 2016, students have been top of mind for many people. Purchasing ‘Sexy Socks’ as gifts is at once healing the planet and people – made from sustainable bamboo, the company donates a pair of school socks for every pair of ‘Sexy Socks’ sold. See the joy our gift brought to these young people…If you would like to join us in paying it forward, why not join the ‘Software Challenge’ and support this local company?

KRS will be officially launching the KRS Software Challenge early in 2017 in time for ‘Back to School’, but as this is the season of giving, we encourage you all to get involved now. Post your ‘giving’ to our KRS Facebook page and spread the word.

Last few places for the KRS Internship Programme
We are thrilled that the ninth KRS Internship Programme is almost full. We have a last few places open for new recruits for our 2017 intake, making this our biggest intake yet.

The KRS accelerator programme will be focused on developer training in a simulated commercial environment, learning the skills to move seamlessly into junior development jobs in two months, not the usual one year.

Find out how to apply here – spread the word too.

How ‘pretty’ your website or application looks, how functional the back end is, along with the capacity it has for future data collecting and analytics, it is nothing if the overall user experience (UX) is not up to scratch. If someone had told me 10 years ago that websites had feelings, I would have laughed, but the experience a user has within the digi-sphere is paramount, as it is the ‘feeling’ that is provoked that determines whether a product will be successful or not.
