'Supporting volunteering and the voluntary and community sector in the Forest of Dean'
The Best Butties Project is now ready to go!

Kate O’Keefe has been appointed to run this new project, which wants to stamp out loneliness and help friendships to blossom in the Forest of Dean. Kate’s last job was at Gloucestershire County Council working with families in difficulty, and before that she worked in a role supporting young people with disabilities.

Kate says: "Many people in the Forest of Dean feel lonely and isolated and say that the TV is their main companion. We know that having - and being - a friend improves people’s health and happiness."

If you  would like to find out more, please get in touch with Kate on 01594 822073 or email her at
bestbutties@fvaf.org.uk

*Best Butties’ has been funded by The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Fund and the Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group to address loneliness and isolation in the Forest of Dean.

Forest Routes recognises that there are people who want to volunteer to transport groups in a minibus and transport organisations that need volunteer minibus drivers.
A D1 licence entitlement is necessary to be able to do this.
The D1 remains on your licence until you are 70 years old, as long as you are still medically and legally entitled to drive.
This funding is available for:

- A medical check
- D1 theory test
- D1 training
- D1 practical test

Volunteers will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
Organisations or volunteers will have the option to pay an additional fee in order to gain their PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) licence.
As part of the application process, you will need to sign a volunteer agreement stating that you will volunteer at least 70 hours over two years (average of about 4-5 hours a month). These 70 hours may involve hours during evenings and weekends.
