IN THIS WEEK'S ISSUE:

The 2016 International Downtown Association Conference took place last week in Atlanta, Georgia. Marketing and Program Manager, Michelle Valeri, traveled to Atlanta to attend the conference and accept the BID's Downtown Merit Award.

This is the BID's fifth IDA award and third in the Downtown Leadership and Management category. This year's award was presented to the BID for its work and initiatives related to contracting its Ready, Willing & Working Clean Team Services to other BIDs and Main Streets. Read the full press release here.

The theme of this year's conference was "Progress Through Partnership" and it couldn't have been more fitting. The conference kicked off with tours around Atlanta, showcasing some of the city's top attractions, such as Ponce City Market, the Atlanta Streetcar, Downtown Decatur and many more. The sessions were collaborative and covered everything from marketing to operations and leadership. There was even a whole session dedicated to the Pokemon Go phenomenon!

A new feature of the 2016 conference was the addition of roundtable sessions. These sessions were extremely collaborative and involved participation and brainstorming from every attendee. The Marketing Roundtable was so fun that a few of us missed the networking break because we were too busy sharing ideas from our cities!

Michelle left the conference feeling refreshed and armed with some great ideas to bring to the Capitol Hill BID. IDA and their Atlanta partners did a fantastic job of attracting a wide variety of speakers and professionals. Thank you IDA, Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District for a fantastic week in the ATL.

ATTENTION BID MEMBERS: FISCAL YEAR 2017 BUDGET APPROVED

On September 9, the Board of Directors of the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District approved the budget for fiscal year 2017 (October 1, 2016 - September 30, 2017).

The projected total income for FY 2017 is $2,713,546 and reflects an increase in annual tax revenues of approximately 7% over FY 2016. Projected contractual income is lower than 2016 by $680,000 due to our decision not to renew one of our contracts. Salaries were increased 4% across most categories and other line items were adjusted based on actual information from the provider or to reflect reasonable expectations.

The most substantial line item difference is the increase in "Office Space" or rent. After 13 years of Union Station donating space for our office trailer, they need the space for their expansion project and we will be moving to market-rate space in the near future. We wish to thank Union Station Redevelopment Corp (USRC) for generously hosting us for all those years!

Should you have any questions regarding the budget, which can be viewed on our website, or any other BID issues, please feel free to contact President Patty Brosmer at pbrosmer@capitolhillbid.org or (202)842-3333.

Hill Center is pleased to announce the 2016-2017 Hill Center Concert Series lineup! This year's series, curated by director Burnett Thompson, presents a unique and diverse line-up of musicians ranging from Americana and jazz to vocalists and wind instruments to ehru and pipa soloists.

Silver City Bound is "Americana at its best" (Huffington Post). A unique collaboration between guitarist Justin Poindexter and accordionist/keyboardist Sam Reider, Silver City Bound is American roots music in motion. Their electrifying live show takes you on the journey of two exceptional young artists from different backgrounds, together "bound for alt-country glory" (Elmore Magazine). With soulful harmonies, dazzling improvisation, and infectious grooves, Silver City Bound is music that moves your body and your soul.

The Silver City Bound concert is coupled with a pop-up tasting room of local beer and spirits, including Catoctin Creek Distrilling, One Eight Distilling, Don Cicio & Figli, Devil's Backbone Brewing Company, Bold Rock Hard Cider and Teavine.
