REshape Newsletter #1/17

"Every day is a new beginning, problems and mistakes from yesterday are just memories of lessons learned."

- Anonymous

As part of the National e-healthweek, more than 4.000 colleagues and their familymembers joined to visit the Radboudumc Innovation-festival last Saturday. The themes varied from 3D & Imaging, Brain & Moving, Digital Healthcare & Research, Personalized Healthcare to a 'Radboudumc draait door' talkshow combined with short talks from colleagues and patients.

It was great to see so much enthusiasm and passion, to see that people were proud to share the innovative projects they work on and to see colleagues being amazed by projects they didn't know existed. In this newsletter we want to highlight some of the innovations we were involved in.

Also we like to invite you to the National e-healthweek afterparty this Friday at Rockstart, see you there?

- The REshape Team
Room with a view
An amazing concept that will support every patient at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre  in the future. Based on their own needs and characteristics, the patient is optimally supported in a personalized environment. The concept helps to improve recovery and the well-being of patients. Initiator of this project is our REshape Fellow surgeon Harry van Goor. Designer and REshape Fellow Iris Hobo has contributed to the design made for this patient room of the future.

Virtual Clinic

The promise of e-health, or digital health as we like to name it, has been that people can be measured more often to provide better data, to help patients with making the right decisions and to decrease the burden of a disease. The Virtual Clinics are a perfect example how to make this happen.

Innovation Street

We facilitated an innovation street to show employees of the Radboudumc what they can do themselves in terms of (digital) healthcare innovation. Aside from examples of new technologies that are already available we also showed them the options that are available at the Radboudumc to help someone with their innovation project.
Project updates

A multisensor cabin with sensors that measure heart rate,  HRV (Hearth Rate Variability), skin conductance and respiration. The cabin supports people in doing their concentration and breathing exercises while providing an immersive VR experience, adding smell, temperature, airflow, vibration, taste and special light frequencies. We're currently exploring a series of research opportunities together with patients and healthcare professionals.

With the HappyMed video glasses, patients be distracted with movies during medical treatments and thereby experience less stress and anxiety. The reduced level of stress and anxiety can optimize medical procedures , improve the patient's experience and also save on costs. The system is currently being put to use at the surgery and OMF departments at the Radboud university medical center.

At the festival a lot of activities were organized especially for children.
Our partner Growtivity facilitated for example a Design Thinking challenge for kids in which they could learn how to program tiny robots.
eHealth week 2017

e-healthweek 2017

The national e-healthweek is organized by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). E-health is about digital applications in healthcare. E-health or digital care offers numerous possibilities for people that are ill, but also helps in prevention of diseases and the monitoring of health.

Afterparty at Rockstart

Rockstart, in collaboration with Dutch Hacking Health and partners, is hosting the National e-healthweek Afterparty. During this event we’ll wrap-up this week, showcasing new digital health initiatives, apps, prototypes and more. Let’s celebrate the closing of a successful e-healthweek together!

Have you hacked (your) healthcare?

Patients hacked an insulin pump so that the pump manages the insuline dosages automatically, based on glucose levels that a sensor is measuring. Have you hacked your own care?
