Public-private partnership to fast track
infra projects, improve public services

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno has underscored the significance of a strong alliance between the government and the private sector in fast tracking infrastructure development projects and improving public services.

He said that among the many benefits of LGU P4 is that the agency which teams up with an LGU can help look for partners to finance their program or project.

Barangays enjoined to hold Barangay Assembly

The DILG enjoins the country’s more than 42,000 barangays to hold their respective Barangay Assembly Day on October 9, 2016. Proclamation No. 260 issued on September 30, 2011 declared the last Saturday of March and the second Sunday of October 2011 and every year thereafter as barangay assembly days.

With the theme: “Para sa Isang Tunay na Pagbabago, Mag-MASID, Makisali at Makiisa sa Isang Maka-MASAng Asembleya,” DILG Secretary Ismael D. Sueno said the 2nd barangay assembly this year shall include the discussion of issues affecting the barangay such as illegal drugs problem, peace and order situation, disaster preparedness and solid waste management, among others.

Local execs urged to close ranks with AFP, PNP
for security measures after Davao blast

In the aftermath of the September 2 Davao blast, DILG Secretary Ismael ‘Mike’ Sueno called on all local chief executives (LCEs) to give full support to the security efforts of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the establishment of necessary security mechanisms to protect the public from the threats of terrorists and lawless elements.

Sueno said LCEs should closely coordinate with the AFP and PNP in implementing appropriate security measures “to deter, prevent or suppress any threats from the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf or any other group that poses threat to law, public safety and peace and order.”

Strategic Communication training in Region 2

TUGUEGARAO CITY — DILG Region 2 recently concluded the 2nd school of Program, Project and Activity (PPA)- based Strategic Communication for Outcome and Result Efficiency (SCORE) recently at Villa Blanca Hotel. The activity was participated in by Local Government Operations Officers V and VI in the region.

These technical positions are very crucial in the implementation of programs, projects and activities of the department. Their roles as policy adviser/advocate, performance adviser, compliance monitor, capacity development catalyst and partners require upscaling of communication skills and strategies to be reflective of DILG’s brand identity: Matino, Mahusay at Maaasahan. Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams
(BPATs) in Maguindanao

DATU ODIN SINSUAT, MAGUINDANAO – The DILG-ARMM, thru its partnership with the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao-Humanitarian and Development Action Plan (ARMM-HDAP), conducted its BPATs training for the Municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao recently.

A total of 34 barangays attended the activity, where the participants were also taught on the importance of human rights concepts. BPATs’ Community Justice System functions within the barangay were properly lectured. It was presented that it was the basic conciliation unit under the system. The basic philosophy behind it was that through the amicable settlement of the disputes, the volume of cases filed before the courts and quasi-judicial bodies might be reduced.


Oplan Broadcastreeing in Leyte

TOLOSA, LEYTE – About 600 participants from radio and TV stations, national agencies, schools, local officials, residents, civic and business groups joined the 2016 Oplan Broadcastreeing in Barangay Tanghas, Tolosa, Leyte recently.

The activity was spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), together with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Eastern Visayas Chapter, where the participants planted 1,000 talisay trees provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) which will serve as shoreline protection of this town facing the Pacific Ocean.

OIC-Assistant Director Artemio Caneja of the DILG expressed hope that the plants would thrive with the support of the local government and residents. This is the second straight year that the tree planting was held in the same venue, based on recommendation by DENR after noting some plants had died due to the elements and being eaten by grazing animals.


DILG, OVP to work together
in drug rehab program

With the upcoming launching of the government’s community-based rehabilitation program for drug surrenderees, DILG Secretary Ismael “Mike” D. Sueno found an ally in Vice President Leni Robredo who vowed to help in the anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Sueno, Robredo and Secretary to the Cabinet Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr., led the fifth inter-agency meeting on the drug rehabilitation program in the DILG-Napolcom Center in Quezon City on Tuesday.

LGUs' support for anti-illegal drugs drive urged

DILG Secretary Ismael ‘Mike’ D. Sueno called on the support of all local government units down to the barangay level for the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.

“Magkapit bisig tayong lahat na sugpuin ang ating mga problema sa droga, kriminalidad at korapsyon,” said Sueno in his speech during the recent multi-stakeholder anti-drug summit in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Physical fitness program for cops launched

DILG Secretary Ismael D. Sueno lauded Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa for re-launching the physical fitness program for the police organization recently.

Sueno said that the PNP’s physical fitness program would enable our police personnel to have sound health in order to deal with their daily grueling task of chasing alleged criminals and suspected drug pushers and users.
