DNA REMINDER FOR AI SIRES, DONOR DAMS, GENETIC DEFECTS
As a reminder, please see below for rule changes enacted January 2015 regarding AI sires, donor dams and genetic defects.

AI sires and donor dams born on or after January 1, 2015 are required to have a High Density (HD) Genomic Profile. AI sires are still required to be parent verified and donor dams must be sire verified.

Since NALF-DigitalBeef is capable of tracking and display of genetic conditions, the rules regarding testing requirements for genetic conditions have been adjusted to a monitoring policy. Testing will be required on AI sires, donor dams and natural service sires if they have the potential to be a carrier of a genetic condition monitored by NALF. Testing of progeny of those animals will only be required if no sample or test result is available on the parent. All animals' carrier status or potential will be available online. Progeny of carriers or potential carriers will be registered and their status displayed on the animal search page. Foundation cows (cows of unknown genetics) or their progeny will continue to be required to be tested for six genetic conditions before progeny can be registered (with the exception of steer progeny).

The shift to a monitoring policy will allow membership to breed around these conditions as they see fit while maintaining full transparency of genetic potential and test results for genetic conditions. This policy leaves the testing decision on animals for the individual member while most effectively using membership and association dollars to test the highly influential animals in the populations.
BOARD TO MEET APRIL 24-26
There will be limited staff availability on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26 due to the April NALF Board of Directors meeting. If you need to contact staff, leave a detailed phone message or email and they will get back to you as soon as possible.
SEND IN REGISTRATION NUMBERS FOR FASTER AND CHEAPER DOWNLOADS
In NALF-DigitalBeef, performing sale downloads is quick and easy if the correct file is supplied. The file sent to NALF should contain only complete registration numbers (ex. NPM1797878) in an Excel, Word or CSV format. The NALF Board passed in August that if another format (tattoo, name, herd ID, etc.) is sent to NALF, the cost of the download will increase from $2 per head to $10 per head.
DATA DUE MAY 15 FOR SUMMER EPDS
The second NALF international cattle evaluation with International Genetic Solutions (IGS) will be conducted early this summer. Please submit all available performance data by May 15th to be included in the summer release of EPD calculations. Data may be submitted via the NALF-DigitalBeef member site login.
