Happy Monday Irish Family & happy early Fat Tuesday. Hope you enjoyed a safe and wonderful weekend. I attended the Archdiocesan Principal's Retreat at the Subiaco Academy in Subiaco, Arkansas last Thursday and Friday. Nestled near the Ozark National Forest, Subiaco Academy provides a beautiful setting for a retreat. Like our KAIROS retreats, the annual Principal's Retreat always helps me deepen my own personal faith life.

It is hard to believe, but this is the 28th week of the 2016-17 school year. We are a short two weeks away from Spring Break, and ten school weeks from graduation. There are, however, a myriad of spring activities before we get there.

I hope you were able to attend one of the three performances of "Annie." I am always blown away by the talent of so many of our students. "Hats Off" to the cast and crew for their wonderful production. Also, a special thanks is extended to Director Holly Pritchard, Set Design Director Matt Avra, and Musical Director Julianne Annesley for their many hours spent preparing our students for the show. Over 50 of our students were involved in the production. This does not include our stage craft classes who have been constructing the set since the beginning of the semester.

The first two nights of incoming freshman registration for the 2017-18 school year were held last week. The last scheduled night is this evening from 6:00-8:00 pm. For those of you who have been through this process before, we hope the on-line registration process has worked well for you. This being our fist year attempting on-line registration, we have had to work through some snags. I have to say, however, that it has gone smoother than I could have imagined. If you are having any problems with the process please do not hesitate to contact the school's business office or Mrs. Hightower in the Library/Media Center.

The Boys and Girls Basketball team each won their opening rounds of regional play action last week. Thursday night the Girls defeated Duncan 60-38. The following night the Boys team slipped by Edison Prep 59-48. Both teams lost in the regional championship round, but advance to the Area Tournament. The Girls will play Guymon on Thursday, March 2 at Edmond North. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 pm. The Boys square off against Nathan Hale on Friday, March 3 at 8:00 pm at Jenks. Finally, the BMCHS Alumni Association will host Irish Family Bingo night this Sunday, March 5 at 5:30 pm. For more information, see flyer below. You may click on this link

Before leaving for Subiaco, I was able to attend the first part of the Junior Retreat last Wednesday. Led by senior students enrolled in Mr. Welch's Spiritual Leadership class, the Junior Retreat begins the process of the senior class turning over the burden of leadership to the juniors. The seniors have been a great class and have constantly set the bar high. I have the greatest confidence the junior class will meet and exceed all expectations.

As we say goodbye to February, March 1st marks the first day of Lent! Ash Wednesday is one of the most important days in the liturgical calendar. Ash Wednesday occurs 46 days before Easter Sunday. The ashes we receive on this day are a symbol of the dust from which God made us. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection and fasting which prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday through which we attain redemption. I hope you signed up last week with Matthew Kelly's "Best Lent Ever" series. If not here is the link:
bestlentever.  I will be reflecting on Matthew's comments through my blogs leading up to Easter Sunday.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

GO IRISH!

Yours in Christ,

David Morton
Principal
