Now Accepting Scholarship Applications

BPW/Triangle is currently accepting completed applications for the 2017 application process until April 5, 2017. These scholarships are provided to outstanding NC Triangle-area students seeking to further their education, advance their careers, or re-enter the workforce. Scholarship recipients receive a monetary award in the amount of $1,000 (USD) toward their education. The award is to be applied toward tuition or other defined school expenses and will be paid to the school on the recipient’s behalf.

There are two scholarship awards this year, which include: Dr. Lois E. Frazier Scholarship (merit-based) and the Mary Edith Fox Scholarship (need-based). Candidates can be female or male and must be currently enrolled (full- or part-time) at an accredited college, university, or institution of higher education.

Presidents' Message
What is BPW/Triangle about in 2017?

Advocacy for women’s rights. From the right of women to vote, to the Equal Rights Amendment, to the right to choose – BPW at the chapter, state, and national levels has advocated for legislation supporting women’s rights. Our current platform is at:

Several members participated in marches this month, in DC and in Raleigh. Our country had the inauguration, the Women’s March, and the March for Life in short order.

We know that women across the political spectrum have been energized by the election. Our chapter goal is to inform you on issues of importance to women and help you advocate more effectively, for whatever cause you support. We are looking to co-sponsor an Advocacy 101 event on February 16th; however, this event keeps getting filled before we can get in. We’ll keep you in the loop on whether the event on the 16th opens up or we can reschedule.

Personal and professional development. We want to help you grow in your life and your career. Business coach Vickie Bevenour gave a powerful talk at our January meeting about Cultivating Your Inner Leader. Exciting upcoming events include:
  • 2/7/2017: At our chapter board meeting you’re invited to learn what we’re doing and contribute your ideas and opinions (registration and details)
  • 2/13/2017: Our first Small Business Roundtable, where women in business can meet, drink some great wine and receive support from like-minded women (registration and details)
  • 2/23/2017: Monthly meeting with keynote speaker Van Eure, owner of The Angus Barn, "If You Build It, They Will Come: Building a Barn to The Barn," with facilitation and comments by Dr. Ashley Simons-Rudolph (registration and details
  • 2/25/2017: A very fun social event, a Nia class, which is a mix of dance and yoga! Click here for registration info.
Our tag line is Networking Beyond Business. These events are where the magic happens, when you are sitting next to amazing women!

Legislative Update
Kelly Thompson, Kelly Thompson Family Law

Legal Chair,

This has already been a busy political year and we are committed to helping our members stay abreast. If you are aware of anything happening or proposed that would affect our group, women in general, or causes we care about (or should care about), please contact us with that information at

Andrea Taggart
Social Committee Chair,

We have time in our calendar for two more social events this year. Our next event will be a Nia Class. Nia combines dance, martial arts, and mindfulness--toning your body while transforming your mind. Nia is a holistic fitness practice addressing each aspect of your life: body, mind, and soul. It is non-impact, practiced barefoot, and adaptable to individual needs and abilities. Our instructor, Molly Montgomery, guarantees me that the class will be appropriate for all fitness levels and, most important, a lot of fun!  Here are the details:

Date: Saturday, February 25
Time: 9 -10 AM
Location: ADF Studio: 715 Broad St. Durham
Cost: $10 (Fee is to be paid at the class. Cash is best!)
What to bring: Water bottle and small towel. The cool-down will be on the floor, so you may bring a yoga mat or large towel if you would like.

The Whole Foods is next door and there is also a bakery around the corner if we want to grab a coffee afterwards--and maybe a scone? We worked off the calories, right?

We do need you to register online if you're planning to attend so that we may have a head count.

If you have any questions--or thoughts on other social events--please contact me at Hope to see you there!
