...A quick message from Stephan Janssen, founder of Devoxx and program committee chair of Devoxx US.
Over the past couple of years, several high profile developers and some (large and small) companies have approached me, asking if I would ever be interested in bringing Devoxx to the USA.
I was always open to the idea, but to organize and execute a Devoxx conference successfully you need a steering team with experience, a budget (even before sponsors are committed), a scalable venue, the ability to create a respected program committee, and of course, the means to invite rock star speakers, inspiring Devoxxians to attend!
After evaluating a few different options, I came to the conclusion that the Eclipse Foundation would be the best partner to make Devoxx US a reality! The Eclipse Foundation is respected by the developer community, with several amazing Java products on the market, AND they have experience organizing large-scale conferences around the world. It was a no-brainer.
A mutual friend introduced me to Mike Milinkovich (executive director of Eclipse Foundation), and after a few email exchanges and a hangout later, Mike was convinced in the Devoxx journey with a three-year strategy to be put in place.
A match made in heaven...
